![]() ![]() Disney co-chairman Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg refused to release Frankenweenie (1984) and fired Tim Burton in 1984 because they had decided Tim Burton was too dark for Disney and too scary for kids. Tim Burton created The Nightmare Before Christmas first as a 3-page poem story in 1982 that Burton planned on making into a Rankin/Bass inspired stop-motion animated Nightmare Before Christmas TV Christmas special for the Disney channel in 1984 after he finished directing Frankenweenie (1984). Henry Selick directed the stop-motion animation while Tim Burton was directing Batman Returns (1992). Tim Burton produced Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) starring Chris Sarandon. Batman Returns (1992) was O scar snubbed by the Academy Awards. Batman (1989) was largely Oscar snubbed by the Academy Awards other than Anton Furst won an Academy Award for best art direction. ![]() But there was a big backlash against the Batman sequel directed by Tim Burton as if it's " full of extreme violence and lots of sadomasochistic, sexual content " too dark and scary for kids by the conservative Christofascist right-wing group called the Dove Foundation and McDonald's promotion of it with Happy Meals for kids so WB co-chairmen Bob Daly and Terry Semel rejected Tim Burton's Batman III movie concept at a movie pitch meeting in 1993. Tim Burton directed Batman (1989) starring Michael Keaton's Batman and Jack Nicholson's Joker. Danny Elfman composed the musical score along with original songs by Prince. Warner co-chairmen Bob Daly and Terry Semel released it in theaters nationwide and it became a huge hit and got a successful sequel in 1992 directed by Tim Burton and started a Batman movie and merchandising franchise. ![]()
